Melena Stevens, LCSW
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, and I received my Masters in Social Work from the University of Utah in 2013. I love working with adolescents and adults to help them overcome current struggles or past trauma. I have worked extensively with anxiety, depression, personality disorders, chronic illness, women’s issues, self-injurious behaviors, and severe trauma. I also use play therapy to help children become strong in their ability to cope with the struggles of daily life.
I believe that the therapeutic relationship is important, and clients have to feel comfortable with their therapists. I also believe that there should be complete honesty to have a trusting relationship. I hope that my clients will be honest with me so that I may better help them to the best of my abilities. In return, I am completely honest in my sessions. A lot of the time, truth is hard to come to terms with, but it is also the first step to real change and personal growth.
I have certified in EMDR, which works very well with people with trauma, or who struggle with anxiety. I am also a certified Sexual Assault Counselor. I have spent 3 years of my career working with substance abuse using SMART Recovery, a skills based recovery program. I am DBT trained, and this is a great form of therapy for those with Borderline Personality Disorder. I also use REBT, which is working with understanding and replacing irrational beliefs with healthy and rational beliefs.
In my spare time, I enjoy music, theater, performing, reading and writing. I am an animal lover and I love experiencing new things. Recently, I have taken up photography and enjoy exploring nature and taking photos.
I am excited to start working with you!!
