Kalani Nelford, CSW
The philosophy that guides my work in therapy is that everyone has inner resources of strength, power, and resilience that can be tapped into, even when faced with overwhelming suffering and pain. In therapy I will follow your guidance to work on what you feel is most important to you, and together we will collaborate to create a roadmap that will meet your individual and diverse needs.
My approach to therapy is from a person-centered, strengths-based, trauma-informed, attachment-based, compassion and emotion focused, interpersonal, feminist and multiculturally sensitive perspective to facilitate the healing process and to promote a greater sense of well-being. The common therapeutic modalities I integrate into therapy are: EMDR, Positive Psychology, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Internal Family Systems, Psychodynamic Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Mindfulness, and Somatic based interventions. I am a LGBTQIA+ affirmative and social justice oriented therapist, and I deeply respect and value each person’s intersecting identities.
I believe that healing and growth can take place when we can present our authentic selves within a secure therapeutic relationship and we feel seen. Our lived human experience assures us that we will encounter a variety of life events, which sometimes can feel overwhelming and may hinder our ability to thrive. When we can make sense of our internal and external experiences by exploring them in a safe and non-judgmental space, we can begin to reconnect to live a more fulfilled life. I feel honored to bear witness to another person’s story and to be a part of this journey towards healing and personal growth.
