Kalani Nelford, CSW
The philosophy that guides my work in therapy is that everyone has a reservoir of inner resources of strength, power, and resilience that can be tapped into, even when faced with suffering or adversity. In therapy I will follow your guidance to work on what you feel is most important to you, and together we will collaborate to create a road map that will meet your individual and diverse needs.
My approach to therapy utilizes a person-centered, strengths-based, trauma-informed, attachment-focused, feminist and multiculturally sensitive perspective in order to facilitate each individuals unique healing process. The common therapeutic modalities I integrate into therapy are: Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness and Somatic based interventions. As a LGBTQIA+ affirmative and social justice oriented therapist, I deeply respect and value each person’s intersecting identities and rights to self-identify and live authentically.
Our lived human experience assures us that we will encounter a variety of life events, which sometimes can feel emotionally overwhelming and may hinder our ability to thrive. When we can make sense of our internal and external experiences by exploring and processing them in a safe, brave, curious, compassionate, and non-judgmental space, we can begin to reconnect to live a more empowered, self-determined, and fulfilled life. I feel honored to bear witness to another person’s story and to be a part of their journey towards healing and personal growth.
